The tractor RS 01 with the well-known brand name Pionier is the first tractor produced in the GDR between 1949 and 1959 - its technology goes back to a prewar development. First of all, production starts in the VEB HORCH Motor Vehicle and Engine Works Zwickau, then in the state-owned company »Schlepperwerke Nordhausen«. The RS 01 / Pionier is a tractor in frameless block construction with rear rigid axle. The front axle is a leaf-suspended pendulum axle.
In the beginning, the pioneer was only available with a cab, but later he could be purchased without them. The tractor is powered by a water-cooled four-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine with a capacity of 5 liters and a power of 29.4 kW. The pioneer was mainly used in agriculture and forestry, where he paid off as a very robust and faithful companion. The only weak point was his steering, which could block at full impact, the deciding factors were worn chassis parts. Through the realization of this popular tractor en miniature, the filigree and detail - faithful tractor will be found in the future also at collectors and on many well - kept H0 - systems.
